Difference between Tribe and Religion
Adivasi is a tribe who has his own culture and tradition and no religion or any profession can change the culture and tradition of adivasis.
Religion is a faith that one chooses to fulfill own spiritual satisfaction, and most of the adivasis follow Sarna religion, which is worshiping the nature.
Many political brains use the name of religion to break the unity of adivasis that we are trying to build. Lets us not forget that we are Adivasis and no religion or political discussion should break our tradition and culture.
Many adivasis have accepted Christianity as their faith but have not forgotten the tradition and culture for example KARAM festival. Karam is the most popular and important festival of the Adivasis. Out of the five types of Karam celebrated at the different times of the year, which coincide with events in the agricultural cycles, ‘Raji Karam’ is the most popular. It is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety. The other four types of Karam are ‘Gitiya Karam, Dasai Karam’, ‘Burhi Karam’ and the ‘Bamba Karam’.
The people who do not belong to Tribe can never understand the tradition and culture. And they use the religion as a tool to break the unity of the tribes.
We have been getting lots of nonsense comments from people who think that we all Adivasis are christains and have been trying to speak something when they do not even know the difference between a Tribe and a Religion. We should be careful from such people whose aim is to break the unity of the Adivasis in the name of religion.
No one can stop any one from accepting any religion because religion is the food for you soul and one can choose any religion and that’s the fundamental right. But we can never change Tradition and Culture of a Tribe because it is belong to a Tribe.
“Johar†is a word in Adivasi to wish. This does not relate to any gods or religion. And that’s why we say “Johar Adivasiâ€Â.
LET US NOT BE FOOLED BY THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE RELIGION A TOOL TO BREAK THE UNITY, LET US REMEMBER WE ARE ADIVASI AND WE MUST STAY UNITED. WE SHOULD NOT ALLOW ANY RELIGION OR ANYTHING TO DIVIDE OUR TRIBE, “ADIVASIâ€Â.
“JAI ADIVASIâ€Â

I am fully agree with your views.
i totally agree with u livio
we shud not fall at the scruplus ideas of other people who take milege out of our innocence.
Uniting whole Adivasi is really a great deed. And I fully support this. But I would like to add here that the mutual understanding between the Adivasis of different religion and tribe is must. And when you are talking of tradition and culture, one must remember that this tradition and culture are nothing but a part of religion and your beleif. When you do not beleive KARMA then how KARMA puja is in your tradition and culture. Yes you can celebrate as only one of festivals without showing its basic. But this way you cannot preserve your tradition and culture for ever. This is just the mirror daily lifestyle of your beleifs. My wordings may not make you fully understood but you just think on the basics. In the same time also I don’t wish that our Adivasi Split in the name of Religion and Community. We have to be one for all occasions and celebrate all festivals as our common festivals.
At same time I appeal if you want to unite Adivasi then stop greeting in publics as “Jai Jesu”, “Jai Sarna”, “Jai Dharme”,………etc. and say “JOHAR” And the favourite “JAI ADIVASI”
This is only the opinion,if any one can explain it in lucid manner, please do go ahead. I’m also confused. Becoz it is such a critical topic if you touch this you left with that…all things can’t go together…But ultimately as time demands we have go together.

i completely agree with your views…since there has been some mild differences among the tribal community recently, we should take initiative to bring the whole community closer . Afterall we are branches of the same tree.
Dear livio,
These are very serious and sensitive topics.First we should discourage the word tribe . We are Adivasis and tribe word is derogatory.we should also seek to change the scheduled tribe to Adivasi.Religion and culture very often get mixed up and mostly the western anthropologists and sociologists see them as separable.I leave it to the readers to examine.
But fact is as agroup we should be united.
