Do we all need to avail reservation?
his topic might seem to be debatic. I always feel that there should be some amendment in the reservation policy facilitated to ST/SCs.Whenever I had been to attend any Engg Entrance exams, PSU exams or any other places, I used to find maximum of the candidates belongs to well settled family. Who can very well compete with other category candidates. Don’t we feel that our poor candidates from remote villages are being deprived by doing so??

Munu is right in pointing that fact out. In fact children from well settled families deliberately start taking their studies & exam preparations in an easy manner because of the fact that reservation is there to their rescue.
But, the other side to reservation is that – even now, Tribals are not present in good enough numbers and good enough positions to inspire and help the other tribals. If a creamy layer is provided in ST reservations, the number will further go down and we will continue to linger in the middle class segment of the society. Its only now that I am seeing a lot many tribals in IITs and IIMs, Tribals starting to place themselves in private sectors and going abroad for jobs. Somewhere, reservation has helped these people to get good education and made them capable of competing with the others. If a creamy layer concept is applied for reservation now, it will be all too soon. How are we going to compete in the recommendation mode for filling a vacancy and favouritism, when we have no people at the top.
In my opinion the very definition of ‘adivasi’ means ‘adi’(meaning of the olden times, also meaning prehistoric) + ‘vasi’(resident, inhabitant or dweller). So, an adivasi is a person who lives like people of olden or prehistoric times. Essentially this definition covers people not living cities, not exposed to the facilities that an extended period of stay in a city provides, not educated in expensive english medium schools and above all do not have tangible or intangible financial means to afford the above mentioned entities. The tragedy today is that people wearing Levis, munching Lays, gulping Coke, watching MTV and driving Honda EBZ, just because they belong to a family of tribal origin, fill the college admission and public sector vacancy forms through the ST quota and indirectly deprive the impoverished, poor and ill-informed ‘adivasi’ for whom the policy of reservation is genuinely meant.
Yes I too agree with it. i feel the reservation policy should be more of economic criteria than caste/tribe criteria. I personally feel i can now compete with other similarly placed people. But the most deserved candidates are left behind due to us. Adhivasis are not poor in intellect,or in aptitude, or sincerity, hard working or any vitue you name it. they only lack opportunity. Opportunity for study first i.e. elementary education due to economic constraints, higher education for the same reason. There are so many of us very brilliant, with high work ethics and willing to achieve any thing given a chance, but don\’t get to have one just because of lack of right opportunity and right backing(finacially). Given a chance any Adhivasi can bring down any star of the sky. Who would dare to disagree with me! We have great freedom fighters, great players, great acedaemics, professionals, politicians and spitual leaders to name a few. There fore it is time now to recognise the true genius Adhivasis right from the childhood, provide them right education, right platform, right association and they will excell in any field. Friends can we not do any thing about it? Are we not too selfish to grab all opportunities? All good things for us alone at the cost of our own brotheren?
