MUNDA SAHITYA SABHA: ASSAM

A Public meeting of Munda people was held at Birsa Munda English Medium School of Barmajan TE in Sonitpur district on 31st of August. Mr. Wilfred Topno President of Adivasi Sahitya Sabha presided over the meeting. There were around 500 men and women from different parts of Assam who participated in the meeting.  Mr. Mohan Munda & Mr. Bisnu Munda of Munda Mahasabha and Mr. Joseph Kandulna (Principal of Emanuel College Tezpur) and Mr. Joshua Barjo (Social worker) with Mr. Lucas Bhengra (Religious leader) and Local AASAA and AAWAA leaders attended the Meeting.

Mr. Joshua Bhengra explained the purpose of the meeting and said that the meeting is held to unite Munda population of Assam through formation of Munda Sahitya Sabha.

Mr. Joseph Kandulna said that Mundas of Assam must be united to assert their political rights as well as for their economic & educational development.
Mr. Wilfred said that Munda people are strong and are capable of doing many developmental works. Munda leaders like Late Santosh Topno established ATTSA, Late Francis Hans established Adivasi Council of Assam. Late P.M. Sarwan formed the first political party of Adivasis in Assam. Therefore if Munda population is united, they can achieve many social and economical goals.

After a long discussion members of the meeting decided to form Munda Sahitya Sabha, the literary body of Munda people.

Accordingly an Ad-hoc committee is formed.

There will be five members each from both the existing Munda sabhas. It was also decided to make a full fledge Executive committee within three months.
The ad-hoc committee will meet Dr. Ramdayal Munda during his visit to Assam on 14th and get his advice and also fully participate in formation of Adivasi Mahasabha on 13th Sept. at the Karam festival at Tezpore &Ghogra TE.

In a separate resolution it also decided to organize Bir Birsa Munda Janam diwas on 15th November 08 at Barmajan T.E. Playground.
