YOUR HELP IS NEEDED FOR ADVANCEMENT OF RURAL ADIVASI CHILDREN
My body is non-Adivasi, but my heart is 100% Adivasi. I am an American, orginally from Lucknow (U.P.) in India. I am lucky to have found this valuable website, joharadivasi.com, because it will allow me to contact many of the enthusiastic and concerned Adivasi brothers and sisters who can help in my attempt to develop a new educational approach for economic, technological, and cultural advancement in Adivasi villages.
In 1999, I quit my job to work in a remote village (e.g.,no-electricity) of 100% Adivasi population in the interior of Simdega district in Jharkhand. I tried many activities, but the one that has been most successful is the school for children starting from KinderGarten. Teachers are from the village and I live in the village for several months every year to help them train in math, science, English, etc. We have tried to achieve a high standard of education, cooperation, and enthusiasm. Now the starting batch of children is in the seventh year and we need teachers with higher capability than those available in the village. Our goal is to develop video, pictorial, and audio material through which students can aquire a solid understanding of mathematical, scientific, entreprenuerial, accounting, etc., concepts to help them start productive village level businesses. (Most boys and girls in the village dream of finding a laborer or domestic servent’s job in the big cities of western India. But this is not acceptable for the self-image and advancement of Adivasi people.) Development of such material will require people with a very high level of dedication, capability, and sacrifice willing to be piooneers in this efforts.
